Pat Todd and the Rankoutsiders continue their winning streak of releasing quality rock and roll albums with influences from fifties rock and roll to country and western, adding some prime Rolling Stones with Johnny Thunder’s Heartbreakers inspiration . Far from being derivative, it is pure honest rock and roll which continues the traditions of the great songwriters of the past .

Usually when a band redos or reimagines songs from their past, it is sometimes cause for concern , a lack of new material or being nostalgic for the past . This is not the case with “ Just Another Stupid Guy” originally appearing on their debut album . On the debut , It was a fast raucous song of desperation. On this album , the tempo slows down and it becomes a reflective emotional ballad, the title is the same but the lyrics and music have changed . It becomes a new song about the same person with a different viewpoint . The new approach is better, it improves the song . Another slow song “Poison The Water” is a song about someone leaving someone in the past . The other standouts are “ Lies, Lies And More Lies”, “ Galvantin’ “, “ That Little Bit Of Nothin” and “ You’re Going To Lose It All”. They do an amazing cover of Leonard Cohen’s “ Tower Of Song” which is about being inspired by musicians like Hank Williams and others . Especially noteworthy is the section near the end. Pat Todd & the Rankoutsiders have learned from the masters of rock and roll songwriting and become masters of their craft at writing memorable raucous and reflective songs . Hopefully, others will draw inspiration from them.
